Welcome to our first series of “The Diet Makeover”!
Before we begin, I’d like to take a brief moment to clarify what these 4 series are all about, and what they are definitely not about as well. First off, I am no registered dietitian or expert in the field of nutrition. My knowledge was gathered through years of experimenting with different ways of eating, lots of trial & error and some common sense too. The tips that I’ll be sharing with you will serve you as practical tools and guidelines for implementing a healthy and balance diet into your lifestyle while satisfying your palate and reaching your fitness goals all at once! By no means is this a quick fix diet plan, if that’s what you are looking for, you have came to the wrong place my friend…
This week we will be putting all emphasis on our FOOD CHOICES and making sure that we are fueling our bodies with valuable sources. I’ve come to understand that our priority should always be focused on providing our bodies with a decent amount of REAL FRESH FOOD. In our days, I believe that most people have forgotten what actual food is, and as a result, began putting more of their attention on calories, nutrition labels and macro-nutrients. Not to say that these aspects of nutrition are not important but before getting into the science of our food, the first step would be to know how to select real edible human food, the kind that nourishes our living cells and heals our bodies on a daily basis instead of creating addictions, digestive problems, and all kinds of diseases and sicknesses.
So what is real food you ask, the answer is quite straight forward…
Simply put, real or whole food is food that has been processed or refined as little as possible and is free from additives or other artificial substances. Of course it would be quite impossible to eat a whole food diet 100% of the time, but the idea is to gradually incorporate more and more of these types of ingredients into our diets.

We are designed to eat natural foods that are free from chemicals, hormones and antibiotics. Sadly mass food production depends on these poisons to satisfy their wallets. By cutting out on processed foods however, you are making a powerful transition to becoming a healthier, fitter & happier you. When it comes to healing & rejuvenating our bodies, our population tends to depend on pharmaceutical products and other traditional methods when most of the time we do not look at the primary source, after all, we are what we eat! How can one expect to be healthy while following a highly processed diet and not getting the nutrients he or she needs to function properly on a daily basis? Before you go out there, spending you time, money and energy on ways to make you feel better, lose weight or get healthier, try to apply these simple changes to your diet first, you might be surprised by the results!

Are you feeling deprived on a whole food diet?
Don’t worry; it might take a little while before you start appreciating the taste of real food since most of us have become addicted to artificial tastes. We need to allow ourselves some time to adapt, but believe me, after a few weeks of eating clean and regulating your taste buds you will feel and look amazing and slowly no longer crave the processed junk that you used too.
Your challenge this week is to gradually modify your eating habits by incorporating more whole foods into the mix. By following the tips listed above, you will get there, no matter where you are in your health and fitness journey today. It’s no race, it’s a lifestyle, so don’t worry if you slip every now and then. I keep my kitchen filled with whole clean foods but freely indulge in some “junk” and treats when I’m out and about every now and then. The key is to find our own balance; your long-term goal might be to eat a 90% whole food diet, so slowly work your way up to that, one day at the time. And remember that everyday, every week is different. For example, your diet may not be the same on special event and the Holiday seasons, but that’s all good, as I mentioned, it’s about finding balance, not about reaching perfection!
It’s time to Rediscover the Sublime Taste that Nature has to Offer!
Enjoy the journey and see you next week with the second series of “The Diet Makeover” series!

Hi I’ve just completed my first day and have really struggled, from going from one meal a day to try eat 5. Feel very bloated, I exercise regularly by running and completing a intense boot camp twice a week. Has anyone else had problems having to force the food down many thanks nina

Hey Nina,
What I suggest is that you start adding one meal at the time or little snacks here and there and you work up from there if it’s really that uncomfortable. Change is always hard but if you give it a couple of weeks you can see if it works for you. Personally, I like to eat 3-4 meals a day, not 5-6 and that’s fine…
