Given how effective it is in tracking steps and calories, it’s no wonder Noom’s users get a better handle on their fitness goals. Noom success stories abound, and it’s easy to see why.

Beneath each of these Noom success stories are lessons — lessons that’ll help anyone in their pursuit of a fitter self. Join me as we get into five life-changing things you can learn from people who have used the Noom app.

Before we start, you might be wondering: “What’s Noom?”

Noom in a Nutshell

noom success stories
Noom Success stories

Noom is a fitness application developed in 2008. It’s the brainchild of Artem Petakov, an ex-software engineer at Google, and his friend, Saeju Jeong. While the two friends spearheaded the app’s development in 2008, it was only after eight years that it made its way to consumers.

In many ways, it’s similar to other fitness trackers like My Fitness Pal and FitBit. What sets Noom apart from many of its counterparts are its functionalities for behavior change and mental wellness. The contrarian stance towards dieting is made clear as soon as you check out the Noom success stories site. On it, you’ll be told to “stop dieting to get life-long results.”

Noom has multiple features for tracking nutritional intake, like a daily food diary. Here, users (like yourself) will be able to log what they ate, see how many calories each food product is, and plan their intake accordingly.

Hence, if you just had a 500-calorie slice of pizza, Noom will give you data on its macros and subtract it from your “calorie budget.”

Speaking of your calorie budget, Noom prescribes you a calorie limit based on the information you provide after you install the application. The app factors in things like your activity levels, height, weight, and, of course, fitness goals. Whether you’re looking to be leaner, fitter, or both, Noom connects you to coaches and a community of like-minded people who are on the journey with you.

Noom is free to download on the Play Store. It’s also available for free on the App Store. Users can use some of the features of the application for free. However, a paid subscription will give you access to all of Noom’s features, including exercise integration and specific macronutrient tracking.

Since the app’s release in 2016, more than 36,000 users have reported success in their weight loss efforts. With these results and success stories, it’s almost difficult to imagine pain points with the app. Some users, however, have expressed difficulties with canceling subscriptions, making a switch to a different fitness app more difficult.

In short, Noom:

  • Is a fitness app
  • Is free to download
  • Allows you to track your calories and physical activity
  • Makes nutritional suggestions based on your goals

Now that you know what Noom does, let’s talk about what can be learned from the different Noom success stories from many of the app’s users.

Lesson 1: Being Fitter and Healthier Comes Right Down to Habits

Consistency is a sticking point for many people trying to reach a certain fitness goal. Whether it’s fat loss or better strength and stamina, not many can stick to a routine. It’s nobody’s fault. After all, life and distractions do get in the way. This is especially true for many busy moms like Sarah.

What’s peddled on mainstream media is often this idea that success in anything can come quick and easy. This may be true for some things. However, in fitness, it’s so far from the truth. Losing fat and gaining toned arms and legs can take a long time. In a sense, fitness is a journey rather than a goal.

Whenever someone I know realizes this, they either end up disappointed or discouraged. The ones that do soldier on have made it a point to incorporate small habits into their lives. You heard me — small.

One example of a healthy habit to have is logging food every meal. Noom allows you to do this. It also does this by giving you the details about what’s on your plate. Another example of a small healthy habit is drinking more water. Noom’s daily diary includes a section where you can place how much water you’ve consumed.

Small healthy habits are sustainable and allow you to go far. Sarah and Lauren will attest to this and will also say that Noom played a major role in their weight loss journey.

Lesson 2: Body Recomping is More Than Calories-in-Calories-out

I know. It’s all about calories-in-and-calories-out. It’s a no-brainer that you need to be on a calorie deficit to burn body fat. On the flip side, not everyone is looking to lose inches. Others are trying to gain them in certain areas like the buns and (sometimes) guns.

Regardless of the goal, there’s a point at which counting calories has diminishing returns. Sometimes, it’s not how much you ate but what you ate.

Calories do matter. However, if there’s one thing women like Erin and Alicia will tell you, it’s this:

There’s a healthy way to get calories in and there’s an unhealthy way to do it.

The former will give you sustainable results whereas the latter will propel you towards a weight loss plateau. In addition, you may lose inches or gain muscle by eating dirty, but you won’t feel as good. This will make staying on the path to health and fitness more frustrating.

Erin and Alicia had different stories to share. However, they had one thing in common — they paid close attention to their nutrition. More specifically, they both zeroed in on what’s healthy and what’s not.

By adding healthier options to their diets, they not only lost weight but also felt much better. They felt more energized as the inches just melted off. Noom’s nutritional tracker was pivotal in their dietary adjustments as they got in-depth data on food.

Noom has an expansive database of foods along with their specific macronutrients. This allowed Erin and Alicia to plan meals that were nutrient-dense but also within their calorie budgets.

Lesson 3: Coaching Optimizes Results

The services of an experienced coach aren’t just reserved for athletes. They can benefit you and other average Joes and Janes striving for fitness. While you can turn to the expertise of coaches for exercise ideas, there’s one other thing you can turn to them for — nutrition. And, this is certainly how Whitney broke through a weight loss plateau.

Using Noom, she was able to speak with a diet coach who guided her through the process of eating healthy. Breaking free from the notion of “go big or go home,” Whitney worked with Noom’s coaches, steadily dropping the weight she gained after graduation.

After years of yo-yo dieting, she struggled to find a weight loss meal plan that could keep the weight off. Noom’s nutritional coaches were instrumental in helping her eat in a way that kept the weight off.

In short, she lost weight with Noom, becoming more empowered to make healthier food choices. This is all thanks to the support of the app’s coaches and community.

Speaking of community, this brings up the next lesson you can learn from our Noom success stories.

Lesson 4: Never Underestimate the Power of Community

Noom is more than a fitness app. Besides its ability to help you track macros and give you ideas for recipes (we’ll get to this later), perhaps its most powerful feature is connection. Noom connects you to coaches and other like-minded Noom users.

Unlike many apps on the market today, Noom success stories connects you to a community. From experience, I’ve found that many fitness trends thrive owing to their communities. Just look at what CrossFit did.

Being part of the Noom success stories community allows you to learn and exchange tips and progress with other members. From group chats to status updates, you won’t feel alone in your fitness journey. Having people know of your journey can also make you accountable, meaning you’ll have more reasons to nail your goals.

Since everyone’s in the same boat, there’s no judgment even if you have “bad weeks.” In Jaclyn’s Noom success story, she said that Noom’s supportive coaches and community made her feel accepted. It doesn’t matter how badly she felt, she still performed since Noom is all about support.

Lesson 5: A Diet Doesn’t Need To Be a Struggle

One of the most common complaints I hear about having to go on a diet is the feeling of deprivation. More specifically, many of us will struggle with giving up chocolate, sweets, and other treats that brighten our days. For most, a diet calls to mind naked pieces of chicken and bland bowls of either spinach or broccoli.

Is steamed or grilled chicken breast with broccoli on the side an example of a healthy meal? Without a doubt, the answer is “yes.”

Does it have to be the only thing you eat? This is where I, along with other Noom success stories like Nicky and Erin, will be shaking our heads rigorously.

If you’re going to be on a diet with Noom, you’ll have access to recipes from all over the world. These recipes are sure to have your mouth watering. Members can also post their healthy meal concoctions as status updates.

Key Takeaways

Noom success stories has helped thousands of people achieve their fitness goals. Noom success stories will keep on coming if the app continues to do what it does best — track progress and identify blind spots in the diet.

Of course, the people in our Noom success stories love the app for more than its tracking features. For the women in our Noom success stories, the app engendered a paradigm shift in how they viewed diet and exercise.

With sustainability and community as its guiding principles, Noom has empowered its users to stay on the course without feelings of frustration and deprivation.

Whether you’re on Noom or any other fitness app, community and sustainability are two things you’ll need on the path to a better you.
